Nite Ref v.3.0 by niteclaw Nite Ref v.3.0 by niteclaw
yay my first ref! (and it looks like it too OTL)

here's a better pic for colours : [link]
Tail now has a fan instead of spade, as seen here: [link]
Head has changed! (body is the same): [link]
Horns are optional, shown without on the new head design
New head w/ colour: [link]
(not very accurate, mostly just messing around but I think it's purdy c:)

Thar be my character/oc/fursona(?) Nite. These are the bare basics of her, but enough for reference, because that's what a ref sheet's for, yes? I might add some more stuff to it later.

Minior tweaks: Wing arequite a bit on the small side and should be much larger, She has a long forked tounge like a snake, and teeth and tounge are black :3 ( [link] Image of open mouth for teeth and tounge)

PLEASE CRITIQUE: colour scheme and anatomy :3 I really want a complete and eye pleasing chracter

lol I drew the dragon on two separate pieces of paper =n= the tail was too long so I had to stick the tail on the end DX

Scratch that not drawing dragons thing. I've drawn wyverns a lot recently. But they're... slightly different??

I shall indulge you in a critique since you asked!

I don't see why one would complain about the red/black/white color scheme other than the fact that it's the most commonly used one for an epic looking character. But you gave it a unique pattern and tiny details that make the dragon yours. There's also the fact that you didn't overdo it with too many patterns, so color scheme is a +1, as is the originality.

The only thing that really bothers me in this image is that the only parts of the body that has muscle are the wings. Which can be understandable: Dragon flies with wings, wings would be the muscular part of the body to take it off the ground. But the fact that the rest of it reads as flat makes it....off. I've considered the fact that it's a reference sheet, or that the colors might've faded the detail out, but the fact that it -appears- that you finely detailed the muscles on one part of the dragon and didn't on the rest of it is slightly agitating to me. It makes the wings seem massive, and the body seem slim to the point of anorexia. So my suggestion would to be to thin out the wings or buff up the body. ;u;
On a similar note, I'm assuming that the wings are more to the detail of the white-fade-to-black as shown on the ventral side display? Or is it solid black on the Dorsal view? Genuine question, not claiming mistake here. :V

I haven't really drawn a dragon in... forever, and I'm certainly not claiming to be the best or even better by posting this critique (It really is lovely. ;u;)
But I look at a lot of `Exileden , *beastofoblivion , and =Shinerai 's works. And your style DOES remind me quite a bit of Shinerai. So I kinda sorta not really have an idea on how dragon anatomy -should- be... But, if you haven't already, look at examples of anatomy from them since I might not be able to be fully accurate, and am subject to questions of OCD. I think those three as references / inspiration can really help you skyrocket. Even if you're already close to there. ^^

Yes I see what you mean, I do need to work on defining muscle, she does look a bit on the whimpy side right now.

I haven't heard of exileden and beastofoblivion before, but Shinerai is my all time hero and I absolutly adore her work (She just actually posted a pic of my character from a trade, [link] so awesome!!!)

Exileden was who originally gave me the idea to get serious about creatures, BeastofOblivion kind of showed me that you don't really need to limit yourself with what's already out there... so many details... xD You should check them out. :>

And I saw that after I saw this, which provided a few laughs~
I'm jealous. Shinerai is just... the arts... so pretty.
When I get the money, 150 dollars of mine is going into one of those commissions....

Yes I really want to commission Shinerai for one of those full body colour pictures, so cool!
